Life after Breaking Bad

Yes, I was one of those people, addicted to a tv show. Right from the first series I've loved every minute of Breaking Bad. To the point that when the last episode aired last week I was simultaneously really excited to see how it all ended and upset that it would all be finished. I don't want to give anything away but the ending was so worth it.

So after it finished I felt like maybe there was a big void in my life (not even an exaggeration) luckily I had lots on to keep my mind off the loss! We watched the last episode on Monday and on Tuesday I went to see Fleetwood Mac. I can't even express how amazing they were. I've wanted to hear Big Love performed live since the first time I heard it and seeing it was an amazing experience I'm so glad I had the chance to go, and to experience it with my mum and dad, Mark and our siblings.

I wore my black Missguided trapeze dress, it's so laid back and easy to wear but I love that the shorter length looks so good with flats or heels and just a change of accessories can make it evening worthy.

On the Friday we went for a meal for my Mum's birthday, sadly she wasn't feeling too well so it wasn't the usual night out with my amazing parents filled with a lot of laughs and erm, wine. Having said that between my dad and I we got through 2 nice bottles of red!

I'd bought Mark tickets to see comedian Bill Bailey live for his birthday in August and Saturday was the night we got to go and see the show. It was in the beautiful Liverpool Philharmonic and we had great seats in the stalls near the front. The show was great. I've seen a couple of comedians live before but this was genuinely laugh out loud funny and just so clever. I really recommend going to see him if you get a chance, and I loved the mix in the crowd, young rockers with long hair and tattoos, middle aged couples and even kids.

Before we went to the show we stopped off for some food. There's a number of places I want to try in Liverpool at the moment but we only had an hour or so, so we stopped off at Sound Food and Drink Liverpool. It's a little bar on Duke street with a musical connection - James Skelly and the Intenders who I blogged about recently held their after show party there and local bands and music types tend to hang out here.

The place is painted mostly black but with big windows along one side and mismatched wooden furniture and benches. The bar doubles as their kitchen area with a pizza oven sitting proudly at the end. This being the case they make really simple food that's easy to prepare, beans on toast, sandwiches, cheese on toast (which looked amazing) and homemade pizzas. They use homemade dough and you can 'create your own' if you want to. We chose 2 between us - chorizo and chicken, and pepperoni and ham. They were really tasty and obviously homemade with a lovely thin crispy crust.

Mark was driving so settled for a soft drink but having worked in a bar before he knows a thing or 2 about beers and ordered a Veddet blond for me. A strong 5.2%, but smooth, not gassy and bloating. It was a nice accompaniment to the pizza.

We finished with some home made cake. What I thought were just simple brownies had a really nice twist - dark chocolate and ginger which was so soft and gooey and had crystallized ginger added to the mix, and a white chocolate and almond flavour which was equally tasty.

The place had a really nice laid back feel to it and when we walked past later that night it was nice and busy. They played great music so I'd love to go back for a drink in the evening.

I finished my weekend with lunch out with friends in Sunday. We went to the Shipping Forecast in Liverpool. Another bar that serves up great beer alongside good music and a nice laid back atmosphere, and the food isn't bad either. They serve deli style sandwiches and simple diner style dishes. I opted for the Mac and Cheese Matador style (with added chorizo). Just what I needed on a lazy Sunday afternoon chatting and gossiping. Hearty, creamy Mac n cheese with the added salty meatiness of chorizo. Our friend had the roast dinner with perfectly cooked brisket. I would have been jealous if mine hadn't been so good!

So with another weekend over I'm back to healthy eating this week and making loads of food from scratch. I've got a quiet weekend this week (so far) ahead of London the following weekend with my mum, so it will be nice to just relax.

Hope you all had a great weekend too.
